This link is the GPS track for day 2…
We left Bath Marina and immediately hit Weston lock. A narrow boat was gong through so we decided to follow them through rather than portage… unfortunately, the narrowboat crew weren’t particularly concered about us in a canoe and wanted to fill the lock as quickly as possible…
it came as a bit of a shock…
we now had a rather long portage through Bath and up the flight of locks.. there were raised eyebrows, especially by the drivers…
We had an unplanned stop in Bathampton to pickup some things from Tina that I (Colin) had managed to leave at the campsite (Oops – especially as what I left belonged to Nigel!!). The following photo was taken by Tina as she waved us off, waving her hanky and wiping a tear from her eye… just before she went down the pub with Nigel’s mum and dad to celebrate!!
The Dundas…
… and Avoncliff aqueducts
take the canal from one side of the valley to the other and back again, crossing the river Avon below!
what entrepreneurs… these guys sold ice cream from their narrowboat and, next door, they sold cheese!!
We had to stop for a cornet, it would have been rude not to…
We arrived at Lower Foxhangers campsite (at the bottom of Caen Hill flight) to be surrounded by ducks….
… and…. with a puncture….
Good old Nigel put his engineer’s head on and fixed it. Phew - it’s a long walk up Caen Hill in the morning.!
