OK, we’re sorted… ish…

Unfortunately Tony can’t make it so it’s going to be: Gordon, Nigel and me.

We’re going to take an open (Canadian) canoe rather than the kayaks we used on our last trip down the Thames in 2006. This is for two reasons…

  • I’ve got a problem with my left shoulder that makes it painful when I raise my elbow above 90 degrees, which is a problem for a double ended paddle as used with a kayak but it’s OK with the single blade paddle we’ll use in an open.
  • Towards the end of the last canoe trip (see here)  we tended to spread out during the day as we (well ‘I’) got tired, and I found it a bit lonely being Tail-End-Charlie all the time and I did not want this to happen again: having all of us in the same boat meant this couldn’t happen.

After a lot of umming and ahing we’ve settled on a single canoe for all three of us rather than two doubles… yes, that’s right, we’ll be three men in a boat! And what fine figures of men we are….

The above photo was taken on our first day at the Northampton Canoe and Kayak Club (11th April). Everyone we met there has been very helpful and supportive, thanks to all.
